Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Great location. Easy (but uphill) walk from the Schwendi train station to the house. Very easy to hop on the train either way. Nice and quite and away from the business of Grindelwald. Despite being close to the road, road noise was minimal. Very basic facility. Bedding and towels were provided, but things like hand soap were not. Room was clean and minimal, but classic Swiss/German and reminded me of staying at a Grandmother's place. Loved sitting out on the balcony and looking at the Eiger. Kitchen had the basics to prepare a meal, but no extras (i.e. no fondue set, I think I found the appropriate baking pan to be able to do a take and back pizza; no pizza cutter). Water pressure for the shower was good. Check in time is limited because Monika (host) isn't around during the day and it is a physical key you need. Of note: we stayed 4 nights. Visited most of the towns in the Jungfrau region. We used public transportation and had the Swiss Half Fare card and the Berner Oberland Pass. It was so easy to be able to jump on and off trains and buses. The only extra we had to pay for was going to Kleine Scheidegg (and we actually did the hike from Mannlichen, so it was the RT from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch and back down the Wengernalp railway to Grindelwald) and Jungfraujoch. (We did not go to Grindelwald First.) We bought all our groceries from Coop. There is one close to the train station in Interlaken and a couple in Grindelwald. Make sure you bring a reusable grocery bag.

Negative: Lighting was very dim. Was hard to ready my book at night. Hard to get a hold of property to see if we could possibly check in a bit early. Turned out not to be a problem, as it took a bit longer to get groceries, etc coming in on the train than expected.
